The post Solana (SOL) Ecosystem in Turmoil: Two Protocols Collide, Solana Foundation Issues Statement appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Discussions on the Jupiter Lend vault design, one of the most talked-about topics in the Solana ecosystem, escalated further over the weekend. Kash Dhanda, Jupiter Exchange’s chief operating officer, released a video statement addressing community concerns regarding the protocol’s lending product, acknowledging that claims of “zero risk of contagion” circulating on social media are “not 100% accurate.” Dhanda noted that some previous posts had portrayed Jupiter Lend’s vaults as “isolated risk,” with one post even stating that “cross-contamination is completely eliminated.” This post was subsequently deleted by the Jupiter team due to backlash. Dhanda said in his statement: “The post we described as having zero risk of infection was completely inaccurate. We wanted to delete it to prevent further spread, but in hindsight, we should have issued a correction at that time.” The controversy was sparked by Fluid co-founder Samyak Jain’s announcement that Jupiter Lend uses rehypothecation for capital efficiency. This means collateral users deposit into vaults can be reused elsewhere within the protocol, meaning the collateral isn’t completely isolated. According to Jain, Jupiter Lend vaults can still be considered “isolated” because each vault has its own configuration, limit, liquidation threshold, and penalty rate. However, this structure does not prevent collateral reuse due to the shared liquidity layer. Dhanda also confirmed the use of rehypothecation, saying, “This mechanism is why these collateral generates returns.” However, Dhanda argued that the vaults are still “internally isolated.” Marius Ciubotariu, co-founder of rival Solana lending protocol Kamino, publicly criticized Jupiter Lend’s design. Kamino recently blocked Jupiter’s financial instrument from accessing Kamino positions. Ciubotariu argued that funds from a user who had pledged SOL collateral were being sent to loop trades and other risky positions, writing: “There’s no isolation here, just complete cross-contamination. Contrary to what’s advertised.” As the debate escalated, Solana Foundation President Lily… The post Solana (SOL) Ecosystem in Turmoil: Two Protocols Collide, Solana Foundation Issues Statement appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Solana (SOL) Ecosystem in Turmoil: Two Protocols Collide, Solana Foundation Issues Statement

Discussions on the Jupiter Lend vault design, one of the most talked-about topics in the Solana ecosystem, escalated further over the weekend.

Kash Dhanda, Jupiter Exchange’s chief operating officer, released a video statement addressing community concerns regarding the protocol’s lending product, acknowledging that claims of “zero risk of contagion” circulating on social media are “not 100% accurate.”

Dhanda noted that some previous posts had portrayed Jupiter Lend’s vaults as “isolated risk,” with one post even stating that “cross-contamination is completely eliminated.” This post was subsequently deleted by the Jupiter team due to backlash.

Dhanda said in his statement:

The controversy was sparked by Fluid co-founder Samyak Jain’s announcement that Jupiter Lend uses rehypothecation for capital efficiency.

Dhanda also confirmed the use of rehypothecation, saying, “This mechanism is why these collateral generates returns.” However, Dhanda argued that the vaults are still “internally isolated.”

Marius Ciubotariu, co-founder of rival Solana lending protocol Kamino, publicly criticized Jupiter Lend’s design. Kamino recently blocked Jupiter’s financial instrument from accessing Kamino positions.

Ciubotariu argued that funds from a user who had pledged SOL collateral were being sent to loop trades and other risky positions, writing:

As the debate escalated, Solana Foundation President Lily Liu called on both sides on social media. Liu demanded that Kamino and Jupiter Lend stop targeting each other. Liu noted that the Solana lending market is approximately $5 billion, while Ethereum has a volume 10 times that, and the traditional financial collateral market is much larger.

Liu used the following expressions in his message:

Tether’s Uruguay Bitcoin Mining Plans Could Be Over

The post Tether’s Uruguay Bitcoin Mining Plans Could Be Over appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Tether’s push to expand Bitcoin mining in Uruguay has stalled after the state utility cut power to its local partner.  UTE, the national electricity provider, halted supply in late July over unpaid bills totaling nearly $5 million. The dispute also froze expansion efforts in the country’s Flores and Florida regions. Tether’s LATAM Bitcoin Mining Expansion Plan Hits Major Roadblock The USDT stablecoin operator entered Uruguay in 2023, promising renewable-powered Bitcoin mining. Uruguay’s abundant wind and hydro capacity made it a prime site for sustainable energy projects.  Sponsored Sponsored Tether partnered with a licensed operator, Microfin, to build facilities and secure long-term electricity deals. However, tension grew as costs and guarantees mounted. UTE required large deposits to secure the energy contracts, while Microfin sought tariff adjustments.  Negotiations led to a memorandum of understanding in June, but arrears remained unresolved. The failure to settle debts triggered the shutdown. Crypto Twitter Criticizing Tether’s Uruguay Backtrack. Source: X Tether had announced broader plans to control about 1% of the global Bitcoin network. The firm pledged hundreds of millions of dollars in South American mining projects, including sites in Paraguay.  The Uruguayan expansion was meant to anchor those ambitions. The company has emphasized that USDT reserves remain separate from its operational ventures. Mining revenue and energy assets are intended to diversify Tether’s business beyond stablecoin issuance.  Earlier this year, it also acquired a stake in Latin American agribusiness to link stablecoin use to commodity trade. The setback in Uruguay raises questions about the viability of energy-intensive mining in high-cost markets. While Paraguay and Texas have attracted miners with cheaper electricity, Uruguay’s grid is stricter on guarantees.  For now, Tether’s talks with UTE continue, but the timeline for restarting operations is unclear. Overall, this highlights the risks in tying stablecoin companies to volatile mining ventures. Tether…
