Enza, an African payments technology company, has received an Enhanced Payment Service Provider licence from the Central Bank of Ghana. This approval enables Enza to provide regulated digital payment infrastructure in one of the continent’s most dynamic digital finance markets.

The licence, granted by the Bank of Ghana under its payments oversight framework, allows Enza to work directly with banks, financial institutions, and fintechs in Ghana to provide payments technology designed for local market conditions.

The company said it plans to launch its payment capabilities with its first Ghanaian customers over the coming summer months.

Founded in 2023 and headquartered in Abu Dhabi, Enza operates regional offices in Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana. Its core offering is payments infrastructure built for African financial institutions, technology designed to help banks and fintechs move faster, handle transactions at scale, and compete more effectively in markets where digital payments adoption is accelerating rapidly.

Hany Fekry, Group CEO of Enza, described the licence as a significant step in the company’s broader mission across the continent.

“Ghana has long been one of Africa’s most dynamic digital finance markets, with strong regulatory leadership, an innovative financial services sector, and a clear commitment to expanding secure, inclusive and modern payment services,” he said. “With this licence, Enza is well positioned to work with banks, financial institutions and fintechs to deliver world-class payments technology adapted to Ghana’s local market conditions.”

Enza targets Ghana as key West African market

Ghana’s digital payments sector has experienced significant growth over the past decade, largely due to the widespread adoption of mobile money. The country consistently ranks among the most active mobile money markets in Africa based on transaction volume.

The Bank of Ghana has developed a licensing and oversight framework designed to support safety, security, and innovation at the same time. This has created an appealing regulatory environment for payment companies seeking to establish a strong presence in Africa.

Enza’s new Ghanaian license strengthens its regulated presence in West Africa, building on its existing operations in Nigeria, Egypt, and South Africa. The company offers institutional clients a clear value proposition: payment infrastructure designed for African contexts.

This infrastructure combines fast, scalable modern technology with essential local expertise to handle each market’s unique regulatory and consumer landscapes.

The PSP Enhanced license is one of the most comprehensive categories within Ghana’s payments framework, allowing for a wider array of payment activities compared to a standard licence. The decision to award this licence to Enza indicates that the regulator has determined the company meets the necessary capital, governance, and technical standards required for this level of operation.
