To say that the copiously talented 202 Breeders’ Cup Classic field is gunning for the heavy favorite Sovereignty is a understatement — there is a certain sort of payback en route for each decisive Sovereignty win. Challengers Journalism and Baeza were second and third, respectively, to Sovereignty in both the Derby and the Belmont. This is the core of the intense competitive heat coming off this year’s $7-million Classic.
But before we dive into what those two athletes. and the deep closer Sierra Leone, who is booked into the seven-hole, just outside of Sovereignty will have to do to surpass the 6-5 top favorite in this blistering run, here are the post positions and the Del Mar morning line.
