Muda’s main aim is to win polls, not form state govt

PETALING JAYA: Muda’s focus is not on forming the next Johor government, but representing the people, party president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz said, following suggestions Perikatan Nasional could form the next Johor government with the party’s help.

“The party is now focussing its time and energy to ensure that our candidates and those from the progressive bloc win at the state polls this Saturday,” Amira told FMT.

Muda, she added, is determined to advocate inclusive economic policies and institutional reforms.

Last night, Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali expressed confidence that PN can form the next Johor government with Muda after the state polls.

The are 56 seats up for grabs in the state election, with PN contesting 33 seats, comprising candidates from Bersatu (16), PAS (11), the Malaysian Indian People’s Party (5) and Pejuang (1).

Azmin said PN and Muda, which is contesting four seats, could form the next state government with a simple majority, if they win 29 seats.

In June, Muda and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) forged a political pact dubbed the “progressive bloc”.

The two parties previously said they remained open to discussions with other parties and groups that share similar political aspirations and policy positions.
