A viral video showed students fleeing in a panic after a young woman was seen holding a knife while walking through an area in the school compound.
PETALING JAYA: A suspect has been arrested over the stabbing that took place at a secondary school in Banting, Selangor, earlier today.
The Selangor education department said it was cooperating fully with the investigation.
“The suspect has been detained by the police,” it said in a statement.
It said the immediate priority was to ensure that the injured student receives the best possible medical treatment and that assistance is provided to the family.
“A team of counsellors and guidance and counselling teachers has been deployed to provide psychosocial support and intervention for students, teachers and the entire school community,” it added.
It urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified information that could undermine the investigation.
Earlier today, Kuala Langat police chief Akmalrizal Radzi said a student had reportedly been stabbed at the secondary school. The victim is said to be in stable condition.
