KULAI, July 5 — With the Johor state election polling day just a few days away, incumbent Bukit Batu state assemblyman from Pakatan Harapan (PH), Arthur Chiong Sen Sern, is intensifying his campaign to ensure that the voter turnout on July 11 exceeds 60 per cent.

Speaking at a press conference today, the effort to defend the constituency he won with a slim majority of 137 votes in 2022 will become even brighter if the voter turnout on July 11 exceeds 60 per cent.

“I and the (Bukit Batu PH) machinery are all out campaigning every day. Voters are also seen to be willing to listen to the manifesto and what we have to offer them, and this is a good sign,” he said at the Main Operations Room N.51 Bukit Batu, here.

The PH machinery in Bukit Batu, he said, has increased the intensity of its campaign work more aggressively and found that the feedback from voters of various races in the constituency so far has shown very positive development towards him.

Meanwhile, Arthur praised the culture of ‘mature politics’ shown by the candidates contesting in the area.

“We compete in a positive way, even wishing each other good luck when we clash during the campaign. This is the way of mature politics in our country,” he said.

He expressed confidence in the wisdom of voters to make decisions, besides describing it as their absolute right to determine the people’s representative.

Meanwhile, Arthur outlined seven determinations to ensure the continuity of development in Bukit Batu.

The determinations include, a data centre industry career bridge, widening of FT001 road and a smart traffic light system, upgrading health clinics, combating vape and drug abuse among youth, strengthening the tourism industry, expanding school facilities and capacity as well as free Malay and History tuition classes.

He said that determination is not just a manifesto, but an integrated effort that he has and is implementing as a representative for one term in Bukit Batu.

“I believe that sustainable development requires experienced leadership, good relations with the government and continuous commitment in resolving the people’s issues,” he said.

For the record, the voter turnout in the 2022 Johor election is around 54.9 per cent.

The Johor polls will be held on July 11, while early voting is on July 7.
