KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated the Chinese government in conjunction with the 105th anniversary of the Chinese ruling party.
In a Facebook post, Anwar said he had sent a letter to Chinese President Xi Jinping, conveying congratulations from the Malaysian government and people.
The Prime Minister said he also expressed his appreciation for the long journey of the Chinese ruling party which has shaped the country’s progress based on the strength of its civilization, history and values inherited over a long period of time.
“I also recall Malaysia’s historic decision on May 31, 1974, as the first non-socialist country in Southeast Asia to recognise the People’s Republic of China.
“The decision, made with great wisdom and foresight, continues to be a solid foundation for the close relationship that has been strengthened for over five decades,” said Anwar.
Anwar also reiterated Malaysia’s commitment to continue to deepen strategic cooperation with China based on respect, trust and shared benefits for the sake of regional peace, stability and prosperity. — Bernama
