Pi Network Urges Mainnet Node Upgrade: Protocol v25 Deadline Looms Fast Now

Pi Network urges Mainnet node operators to upgrade to Protocol v25 as most nodes complete the network update.

Pi Network has reminded Mainnet node operators to upgrade their systems to Protocol v25 as network readiness moves forward.

The project said most Mainnet node operators have already completed the upgrade, while remaining operators should update soon.

The notice said the upgrade process is simple and should take only a few minutes for eligible node operators.

The reminder comes as Pi Network continues to rely on desktop and laptop nodes for transaction validation and network consensus.

Pi Network Calls for Protocol v25 Upgrade

Pi Network said Mainnet node operators who have not upgraded should complete the move to Protocol v25. 

The update is needed to help nodes remain connected to the network. Operators who delay may face connection issues as the network moves ahead.

The project described the upgrade as similar to earlier node updates. It said the process should be straightforward for current node operators. 

This message is aimed at keeping the Mainnet node base aligned on the same protocol version.

Mainnet nodes play a key role in Pi Network’s blockchain structure. They help validate transactions and support the shared ledger. 

Therefore, keeping node software updated remains a core requirement for network operation.

Pi Nodes Use Stellar-Based Consensus Model

Pi Nodes run on desktop and laptop computers, rather than mobile phones. They serve as the fourth role in the Pi ecosystem. 

Their task is to support transaction ordering and agreement across the distributed ledger.

Unlike Bitcoin-style proof-of-work systems, Pi Node uses a model based on the Stellar Consensus Protocol. 

In this system, nodes form trusted groups known as quorum slices. These groups help decide which transactions are accepted by the network.

Pi also uses security circles from mobile miners as part of its wider trust model. 

These circles help form a global trust graph for the network. That trust graph supports how Pi Nodes decide validation roles across the ledger.

Pi Network said its node model follows a user-focused design. The project aims to let everyday users run nodes through a desktop application. 

This approach is different from systems that require deeper technical skills.

The desktop node software includes two interfaces for Pioneers. One interface supports node functions, while the other works like the Pi mobile app. 

Users can check balances, watch content, and use Pi chats from their computers.

Pioneers can also apply to become nodes through the node interface. During selection, the Core Team reviews device reliability and connectivity. 

Selected node operators must also pass KYC before serving as Testnet nodes.

Pi Network has described its development path as progressive decentralization. 

Earlier Testnet stages include a centralized layer for testing and faster adjustments. The Protocol v25 upgrade now forms part of ongoing Mainnet node coordination.
