Flood evacuees in Perak surge overnight, 92 people from 33 families housed at two centres
IPOH, June 15 — The number of flood evacuees housed at temporary relief centres in Perak rose to 92 people from 33 families this morning, compared with 17 people from eight families last night.
The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat said two relief centres had been opened in the two affected districts — Larut, Matang and Selama at 8pm, and Manjung at 11.30pm last night.
“The relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Batu Hampar in the Larut, Matang and Selama district recorded an increase in evacuees compared with last night, housing 41 people from 14 families following floods affecting Kampung Batu 25, Kampung Berjaya, Kampung Batu 23 and Sungai Rotan.
“Meanwhile, the relief centre at SK Beruas in the Manjung district recorded 51 evacuees from 19 families from flood-affected areas in Kampung Kilang, Taman Anggerik Permai and Kampung Pulau Kabung,” it said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a thunderstorm warning at 5.30am today for the areas of Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Bagan Datuk, Manjung and Hilir Perak.
In addition, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage reported that water levels in Sungai Perak in the districts of Hilir Perak and Bagan Datuk had exceeded danger levels, with readings of 1.38 metres and 0.66 metres, respectively. — Bernama
