MANILA, Philippines – Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo wants to improve the delivery of health services under her watch, and one of her daughters, Dr. Tricia Robredo, is helping the city government with the initiative.
Dr. Robredo is a research scientist at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health and a primary healthcare research specialist at Ariadne Labs in Boston in the United States.
Her area of focus happens to be healthcare delivery — perfectly aligned with what her mother wants to strengthen in their hometown, for the benefit of its 210,000 residents.
Rappler’s Acor Arceo sits down with Dr. Robredo to discuss her project with the Naga City government and what it means to her, the importance of empowering frontliners such as barangay health workers and midwives, and how the spirit of bayanihan is instrumental in healthcare.
We also look back on her journey towards becoming a doctor, and how her experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic — when her mother was vice president — shaped her.
