Best Crypto Exchanges in Southeast Asia 2026: 10 Platforms Were Named by Regulators, and One of Them Is Us
- Southeast Asia has six crypto markets, six regulators and six different correct answers, so a single regional ranking cannot serve you.
- Five of the six publish an official register or licence list, and that register outranks any comparison article, including this one.
- Vietnam's Decree No. 284/2026/ND-CP takes effect on 1 September 2026 and fines individuals, not platforms, for trading through unlicensed venues.
- The Philippine SEC named ten offshore exchanges in its August 2025 advisory, and PLDT and Smart Communications then restricted access to them.
- MEXC holds no licence in any of the six markets covered here, appears on Malaysia's Investor Alert List, and names Singapore as a prohibited jurisdiction in its own User Agreement.
- The safest sequence is to check your own regulator's register first, and to treat any offshore account as a separate decision with its own legal risk.

What a Licensed Local Platform Gives Up, and What That Costs You
Choosing by Use Case
- First local-currency purchase. Use the platform on your own regulator's register, and accept the spread as the price of recourse.
- Regular accumulation of major assets. A licensed local platform covers Bitcoin, Ethereum and the larger caps in almost every one of these markets, so the offshore question rarely needs to arise.
- Remittance and stablecoin corridors. Licensed VASPs in the Philippines and licensed operators in Indonesia are built around exactly this flow, and they settle directly into local bank and e-wallet rails.
- Assets your local platform does not list. This is the genuine gap, and there is no compliant answer to it in the six markets covered here, so the honest advice is to weigh the legal exposure rather than to route around it.
- Residents of Vietnam from 1 September 2026. The fine attaches to you, not to the platform, so the calculation changed on that date regardless of which offshore venue is involved.
