Zcash plans a major 2026 upgrade with quantum-resistant security, recoverable wallets, and stronger crypto privacy tools for users.

Zcash is preparing a major upgrade that could change crypto privacy in 2026. The privacy-focused cryptocurrency is strengthening its defenses against future quantum computer attacks. Furthermore, developers are also developing recoverable wallets for users

Zcash Sees Growing Demand for Private Transactions

Recently, crypto research firm Delphi Digital released a report on Zcash and its plans. The report said that Bitcoin is increasingly intertwined with traditional financial systems. But Bitcoin doesn’t have a robust privacy feature for users.

Due to this problem, Zcash is making an effort to become a privacy-focused choice. Moreover, the network is integrating quantum-resistant technology to enhance security in the long run. This may be useful for protecting transaction data in the future, developers believe.

The report revealed that the usage of Zcash’s shielded pools has been robust in 2025. Only about 11% of the supply remained in protected pools earlier this year. But it’s now up to almost 30%. This increase indicates that more users are choosing to use private crypto transactions.

Protected transactions obscure wallet addresses and transaction information from the public. Meanwhile, Zcash provides viewing keys for selective disclosure. Therefore, institutions can still share information with regulators when necessary.

This system enabled Zcash to remain on exchanges such as Coinbase and Binance. In the past few years, many other privacy coins were subjected to pressure from regulators. Zcash was still listed on regulated exchanges, though, due to its optional transparency features.

Quantum-Resistant Upgrade Could Arrive by Late 2026

During the Consensus Miami Privacy track event, Josh Swihart shared new details about the project roadmap. He stated that quantum-recoverable wallets may be available in the next month.

Swihart also said that Zcash is looking to be fully post-quantum secure in 12 to 18 months. In the future, quantum computers will be much more powerful. Thus, developers are concerned about the possibility of current encryption systems becoming weaker over time.

Private blockchain information may be revealed if quantum machines break modern encryption systems. This is why the developers of Zcash are keen on safeguarding the privacy of users before the machines become common.

The network plans to add protocol-level post-quantum privacy using the Tachyon upgrade by the end of 2026. Furthermore, wallet recovery and long-term security features are still being enhanced by developers.

Zcash Could Lead Crypto Privacy Market With 2026 Security Upgrade

Meanwhile, Zcash has also seen strong market growth recently. According to CoinGecko, the ZEC is currently trading at $616.57, up approximately 7.53% over the past 24 hours. Furthermore, the cryptocurrency gained more than 150% during the past month.

Even with this surge, Zcash remains well below its 2016 all-time high of $5,941. However, the recent gains show rising investor interest in privacy-focused blockchain projects and quantum-resistant technology.

The broader crypto sector is also taking quantum risks more seriously. Several blockchain projects are developing more secure encryption methods for long-term security. But Zcash is still one of the top projects that are concerned with privacy and quantum resistance.

If the Tachyon upgrade succeeds in 2026, Zcash could strengthen its position in the global privacy coin market. Furthermore, its privacy system that is compliant with the regulations and its security roadmap may be of greater interest to institutional investors.
