Furious red state voter tells MS NOW Trump's chaos is forcing him 'back to work'
As part of an MS NOW report on the Republican Party troubles in what has been the reliably red state of Ohio, several locals from Lorain expressed dismay with the economy under Donald Trump, with one elderly man grousing he is having to rejoin the workforce against his will.
As host Anna Cabrera stated as she shared a clip of Vice President JD Vance, “We see Vance there in Cincinnati, Ohio, the vice president participating in the primaries in his home state today. Will, what are you hearing from voters as they head to the polls?”
“Well, you talk to people here,” MS NOW’s Will McDuffie replied, “and you kind of understand one of the reasons Democrats think this could be a pickup opportunity, because folks are really frustrated with the state of the economy right now.”
“We took some time yesterday and went out to Lorain, which is a rust belt town on Lake Erie. It's actually where [former Democratic Senator] Sherrod Brown built his political career as a congressman,” he added. “And we heard from folks, just speaking to them on the streets of downtown, that they're struggling right now. Let's take a listen.”
In the previously recorded clip a man on an empty street pointed at the buildings and observed, “Places are shutting down up along the storefronts here. They can't seem to keep as many places open. Just not enough money going around.”
Another man complained, “This ‘Big Beautiful Bill' didn’t help me — it didn't help me in the least. If anything, it's one of the reasons I'm having to go back to work.”
“You look at the price at the gas pump and you're like, ‘wow, is that real?' I guess it is,” a third man confessed. “So you try to avoid it a little bit; you don't fill it up all the way.”
McDuffie added, “And Anna, just in a couple conversations we've had with people coming into the polling site here in Cleveland, same thing: economy on everybody's mind, Anna.”
