Johor polls on July 11, Negeri Sembilan polls on Aug 1

PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has set July 11 and Aug 1 as polling days for the 16th Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections respectively.

EC chairman Ramlan Harun said nominations would be held on June 27 in Johor and July 18 in Negeri Sembilan, following the dissolution of the state assemblies earlier this month.

Early voting has been fixed for July 7 in Johor and July 28 in Negeri Sembilan.

“The campaign period will run for 14 days, ending at 11.59pm on July 10 for Johor and July 31 for Negeri Sembilan,” Ramlan told a press conference after an EC meeting here today.

He said the Johor election would cost an estimated RM86.8 million and the Negeri Sembilan election, RM80.6 million.

A total of 2.73 million voters are eligible to vote in Johor while Negeri Sembilan has 889,490 voters.

A total of 42,971 election workers will be deployed in Johor, with 1,140 polling centres and 4,980 voting streams. In Negeri Sembilan, 15,344 personnel will manage 439 polling centres and 1,738 streams.

Postal voting applications are open for eligible voters under categories including election workers, security personnel, overseas Malaysians, and organisations, with staggered closing dates set between June 19 and July 15 depending on the category.

Ramlan urged candidates to submit their nomination papers early for verification and encouraged the early payment of deposits to ensure a smooth nomination process.

He said government agencies and NGOs were welcome to serve as election observers, with live streaming of selected polling streams to be conducted via the EC’s official Facebook page.

The EC will also carry out its “Jom Kita Undi” campaign nationwide to encourage voter turnout through traditional and digital platforms.
