A non-profit organization called AfghanEvac is demanding an investigation into the death of Mohommad Nazeer Paktyawal, 41, an Afghan asylum seeker who served as a special forces soldier and fought alongside U.S. Army Special Forces for over a decade.

Paktyawal was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Dallas while preparing to take his six children to school and died within 24 hours. He was admitted to Parkland Hospital on March 13 at 11:45 p.m. and pronounced dead March 14 at noon.

AfghanEvac states it is highly unusual for a healthy 41-year-old to die so suddenly in government custody and is calling for transparent investigation by the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General and Congress.

The family expressed shock at his sudden death, with children asking when their father will return home.
