MEXC is cheaper for ETH futures: ETHUSDT charges 0% maker and 0.01% taker against Ourbit's 0.02% and 0.04%, so a weekly 10,000 USDT trade, limit in and market out, costs 52 USDT a year on MEXC against 312 on Ourbit.
Ourbit wins on spot, free since a September 2024 promotion, and for bots, which pay more on MEXC's API schedule.

Key Takeaways
  • MEXC is our pick for manual futures trading, because Ourbit charges 0.02% maker and 0.04% taker on every contract while MEXC's ETHUSDT costs 0% and 0.01% and its BTCUSDT 0% and 0.02%.
  • A weekly 10,000 USDT ETH trade, opened with a limit order and closed at market, costs 52 USDT a year on MEXC and 312 USDT on Ourbit.
  • Spot is Ourbit's ground, since a promotion announced on September 3, 2024 set every spot pair to 0% maker and 0% taker, while MEXC charges 0% and 0.05%.
  • CoinGecko scored MEXC 9 out of 10 and Ourbit 8 out of 10 on October 7, 2026, with about 618 million USD in tracked reserves for MEXC and 123 million for Ourbit.
  • The UK FCA has published unauthorised-firm warnings on both exchanges, MEXC in March 2024 and Ourbit in May 2026, and MEXC also carries 2026 notices from the Seychelles FSA and Dubai's VARA.
  • Bots pay less on Ourbit, whose futures rates undercut MEXC's API schedule of 0.06% maker and 0.08% taker.

Ourbit's pitch is short enough to fit on a banner: no fee on any spot trade.
For an active trader the bigger bill usually sits one tab over, where every Ourbit futures order pays a fee, resting limit orders included.
This Ourbit vs MEXC comparison prices both sides of that split, then checks listings, leverage, reserves and regulator records.

What Does a Weekly ETH Futures Trade Cost on Ourbit Compared With MEXC?

On a 10,000 USDT ETH perpetual opened with a limit order and closed at market, Ourbit charges 6 USDT and MEXC 1 USDT, which over 52 weeks comes to 312 USDT against 52.
The gap comes from the maker side, where Ourbit charges 0.02% and MEXC's ETHUSDT charges nothing.
On Ourbit, a futures order that adds liquidity still costs 0.02% and one that removes it costs 0.04%, per the same 2024 announcement that made spot free.
MEXC prices each contract separately, and on ETHUSDT and BTCUSDT its Special Rates take the maker fee to zero.
As read on September 10, 2026, the MEXC fee page lists ETHUSDT at 0% maker and 0.01% taker and BTCUSDT at 0% and 0.02%.
Take a 10,000 USDT ETH position, entered with a limit order and exited at market.
Ourbit charges 2 USDT to open it and 4 USDT to close it, 6 USDT in all.
MEXC charges nothing to open it and 1 USDT to close it.
Close with a second limit order and the round trip costs 4 USDT on Ourbit and nothing on MEXC.
Repeat the limit-in, market-out trade every week for a year and the bill reaches 312 USDT on Ourbit against 52 USDT on MEXC.
Spot runs the other way.
A 4,000 USDT meme-coin trade, bought with a limit order and sold at market, costs nothing on Ourbit and 2 USDT on MEXC, or 1.60 USDT with the taker fee paid in MX.
Done weekly, that spot routine adds 104 USDT a year on MEXC, so a trader who runs both routines pays 156 USDT on MEXC against Ourbit's 312.
For someone who never trades futures, Ourbit is the cheaper of the two.
Three limits apply to MEXC's side of the sum.
In regions where MEXC applies its standard rate of 0.01% maker and 0.04% taker, the ETH round trip costs 5 USDT and the combined year reaches 364 USDT, above Ourbit's 312.
Orders placed through MEXC's API pay 0.06% maker and 0.08% taker, which makes the same ETH round trip 14 USDT, more than double Ourbit's 6.
Funding payments and slippage sit outside every figure here.
Where both schedules fall in the wider market is mapped in our futures fee ranking.

The MEXC View

What follows is MEXC's own view of Ourbit, written by the exchange that publishes this page, and it starts where Ourbit is ahead.
Ourbit charges nothing on spot trades, its futures rates undercut our API schedule for automated traders, and CoinGecko tracked about 123 million USD in reserves for it on October 7, 2026, behind an 8 out of 10 score.
Our case is narrower: no maker fee on our two main perpetuals, a lower ETH and BTC taker, about 1,450 listed coins against Ourbit's 836, a 500x tier written into one announcement, and reserves audited by Hacken every month.
If you trade only spot, or run bots through an API, Ourbit is the cheaper venue and our edge disappears.
The weaknesses that fees do not capture are listed in the review we wrote about ourselves.

What Does Our Six-Part Review Framework Say About Ourbit and MEXC?

On our six-part framework, MEXC leads on futures fees, coin count, documented leverage and reserve evidence, Ourbit leads on spot fees and on cost for API bots, and both appear on the UK FCA's warning list.
Each cell names its source and date, because the two columns were read from different pages.
Why we score exchanges on these six rows is laid out in our published review method.

Is Ourbit's 0% Spot Fee a Standing Schedule or a Promotion?

Ourbit presents it as a promotion: a September 3, 2024 announcement cut spot fees from 0.1% to 0% on every pair, gives no end date, and keeps for Ourbit the final right to interpret the offer.
Traders Union's fee page, updated September 11, 2026, still lists 0% on both sides, two years on.
A promotion can end on notice, so the fee printed on your own order confirmation is the figure to trust on any platform.
The same announcement sets Ourbit's futures at 0.02% maker and 0.04% taker, and the fee fields on its CoinGecko futures page match those rates.
One record lags: CoinGecko's spot page for Ourbit still shows a 0.1% trading fee, the rate the promotion replaced.
MEXC's 0% spot maker rate belongs to its standard schedule, and the fee page shows each pair's rate before you place an order.
Which exchanges keep a fee line at zero, and on what terms, is tracked in our audit of zero-fee schedules.

Which Exchange Lists More Coins, and Whose Leverage Ceiling Is Written Down?

MEXC lists more, with 1,450 coins and 1,834 spot pairs on CoinGecko on October 7, 2026 against Ourbit's 836 and 842, and it documents a 500x ceiling that Ourbit's readable pages do not state.
Ourbit's futures book is still large, with 770 perpetual pairs on its CoinGecko futures page.
Under MEXC's announcement of April 23, 2025, BTCUSDT and ETHUSDT open at up to 500x and four more USDT pairs at 250x, except in ten listed regions and in copy trading.
For Ourbit, we found no official page stating a maximum, so the contract screen is the place to check before sizing a position.
New listings are the other half of coin coverage, and our listing-speed index tests which exchanges disclose when coins arrive.

Reserves, Security Ratings and Regulator Lists: How Do Ourbit and MEXC Stack Up?

CoinGecko rated MEXC 9 out of 10 and Ourbit 8 out of 10 on October 7, 2026, tracked about 618 million and 123 million USD in reserves, and recorded no incident for either.
Both appear on the UK FCA's list of unauthorised firms, and MEXC also has notices from the Seychelles FSA and Dubai's VARA on file, all linked below.
On CoinGecko's CORE3 security rating, MEXC holds three stars and Ourbit two.
MEXC's reserves are audited by Hacken every month, and the proof-of-reserves page lets each user check that their own balance is included.
For Ourbit, the reserve figure is CoinGecko's tracked estimate, and we found no third-party audit report on the pages we could read.
What separates an audited reserve report from a tracker estimate is explained in our review of how exchanges prove their reserves.
The UK Financial Conduct Authority first published its warning on MEXC Global Ltd as an unauthorised firm on March 22, 2024, and its warning on Ourbit on May 14, 2026.
Under those listings, UK users of either platform have no access to the Financial Ombudsman Service or the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
MX Global Ltd, named by the Seychelles Financial Services Authority as the operator of the MEXC platform, was never granted a licence under the country's virtual asset law, the regulator said in a May 26, 2026 press release that also says it is initiating enforcement measures.
Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority then fined the same company, finding in a June 22, 2026 notice that it served Dubai customers without a licence from 2022 to April 2026 and onboarded users without UAE know-your-customer checks.
VARA credits the company in the same notice with full cooperation and with following its cease-and-desist orders, and notes its stated intention to seek a licence.
In CoinGecko's regulation field, Ourbit's only entry is a money services business registration in Canada, which the tracker files as narrow, anti-money-laundering oversight with basic authorisation.

Spot Trader, Futures Trader or Bot Operator: Which Exchange Fits Each?

Hand-placed futures traders fit MEXC, spot-only traders and API bots fit Ourbit on cost, and anyone mixing spot with weekly ETH futures still pays less on MEXC at its fee-page rates.
Check which rate applies in your region before counting on that last result.
Choose MEXC for maker-heavy BTC or ETH perpetual trading, a longer coin list, a written 500x tier and a monthly reserve audit.
Choose Ourbit if you trade spot only, run futures bots through an API, or want free spot trades while its promotion lasts.
A first ETHUSDT limit order of a few dollars shows whether the 0% maker rate applies to your account.
For a wider field, our Ourbit alternatives guide lines up five more exchanges with verified fee schedules.
Readers in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia should look for a platform authorised where they live.
Traders Union lists Ourbit as unavailable in the United States, and the FCA's UK warning list names both exchanges.
In the EU and EEA, MEXC holds no MiCA authorisation, and the closing notice explains what that means for readers there.

On spot, yes: Ourbit charges 0% on both sides against MEXC's 0% maker and 0.05% taker.

Ourbit futures cost 0.02% maker and 0.04% taker.

What does a futures limit order cost on Ourbit and MEXC?

On MEXC's ETHUSDT and BTCUSDT the maker rate is 0%, per its fee page, though API orders pay 0.06%.

Set up the MEXC account first so the deposit address is ready, and move a small amount as a test.

Risk Warning and Regional Notice

Perpetual futures and leverage amplify both gains and losses, and positions can be liquidated for the full margin amount.
At 500x, a move of roughly 0.2% against a position can trigger liquidation, so high tiers suit only experienced traders with strict risk controls.
This article is informational for readers in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, where the platforms discussed may not be available or authorised.
In the EU and EEA, MEXC is not authorized under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).
The Dutch regulator AFM has placed MEXC on its register of non-compliant entities, which ESMA republishes, and readers in those regions should factor this status into any decision.
In a May 26, 2026 press release, the Seychelles Financial Services Authority said the company it identifies as operating the MEXC platform does not hold a licence under its Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2024, that it is initiating enforcement measures, and that the public should exercise caution when dealing with the platform.
In a June 22, 2026 notice of fines, Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority said the entity operating as MEXC had served customers in Dubai without a licence from 2022 to April 2026 and onboarded users without meeting UAE know-your-customer requirements, and that it cooperated, complied with cease-and-desist orders and intends to seek a licence.
